Betty the Bus Driver

Betty the Bus Driver

I'm Betty the bus driver, and I'm really happy that I drive lots of people around all day – together we are looking after the planet. Do you know if more people took the bus there would be less cars on the road and that means less pollution.

I get to see all sorts of things driving the bus around the city. Sometimes I go out to New Brighton and I can see the Pier and sometimes I get to go out to Lyttelton and see the big ships. It's really cool.

I've been to lots of different countries and seen lots of different things on my bus-driver training. Do you know that in England they have lots of double-decker buses. That's like a two-storey bus. Have you ever seen one of those before? They also have some double-decker buses that don't have a roof on the top deck, but they were only used for special sightseeing tours.

When I was in San Francisco, the buses there had a bit in the middle that looked like a concertina because they were extra long. The concertina bit in the middle made it easier for them to turn around corner like a bendy straw!

Have you ever been to Wellington? Lots of the buses there have wires on the top of them that attach to tracks. The tracks kind of look like power cables above the road. They have these because the help give the buses energy to run.

Who knew there were so many different types of buses? Hope to see you at the next bus stop!
