 Spike the HedgehogI'm Spike the hedgehog. I'm nocturnal which means I sleep all day and only come out at night. I like to eat worms and insects. When I get scared I roll up into a ball and my quills protect me from any danger. Did you know that on my front legs I have five toes and on my back legs I have four toes? I also have nails to help me burrow. I have such a good sense of smell I can find worms underground! Hedgehogs got their names because of where we were commonly found in gardens and hedges, and the noise we make sounded like little pigs grunting. Some types of hedgehogs even make little squeals. You might have heard a hedgehog looking for food in your garden. Most people like having hedgehogs in their gardens because they keep out annoying bugs and pests that ruin people's gardens. I like to pretend that I'm a guard on patrol responsible for protecting the garden. |
